In this series, the teachers of Chosei Zen will bring to life through their own experience the important texts in our lineage. In June, Gordon Greene Roshi will focus on a transcript from Tanouye Roshi on Sun Tzu’s Art of War, including addressing several misinterpretations and giving you a fresh way to consider the text.

Fresh Talks: Surangama Sutra
In this series, the teachers of Chosei Zen will bring to life through their own experience the important texts in our lineage. In April, Ginny Whitelaw Roshi will focus on Surangama Sutra. Delve into the sutra that shows how we get everything backwards, how that backwards thinking gets us stuck, and the best practices for flipping it around and seeing clearly (i.e., enlightenment).

Teisho
A teisho is a talk given by a Zen Master during intensive training. Rebecca Ryan Roshi will give online teishos that are open to attendees of Daily Zazen every afternoon during Spring Keishin, March 21-24.

This week, Ken Kushner Roshi, will discuss hara, or the lower abdomen. Hara connects the physical, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of human experience and provides connection to other people and the entire universe.

Zazenkai (online intensive training)
This is a one-day intensive training lasting 7am-12pm CST (2-7pm CET in Europe) designed to prepare students to participate in keishin. It will be run by senior students. Students will train separately at home, tethered together through the Zoom. It’s a great opportunity for boosting your training.

Fresh Talk: Kamae (psycho-physical posture)
This is a Fresh Talk and also a discussion during our Connection: 49-Day Zen Training Period around theme of genuine relationship and Zen practice. This week, Gordon Greene Roshi will focus on kamae, which is a Japanese word frequently used in martial arts. It is sometimes translated as “psycho-physical posture,” but it is about your relationship to all that is around you.

During the Connection: 49-Day Zen Training Period, we invite you to commit to daily zazen (Zen meditation) and working with another practice or relationship (person, community, or process) to explore how we shift focus towards “relationship over transaction” and "practice (or process) over reaching a goal.”

15 Minutes Zen Meditation x 14 Days
In the new year, Chosei Zen invites new students and newly returning students to join 15 minutes of online Zen meditation at 8:30pm CST over 14 days during January 2-19, 2024.

Spring Green Dojo will host an online greeting for the New Year on Sunday, January 1, 2024 at 1 pm U.S. Central Time (8 pm CET). All are welcome to join by Zoom.

This is a one-day online intensive training lasting 1pm-1am CT (7pm-7am UK/ 8pm-8am CET in Europe) on the occasion of Rohatsu (Buddha’s enlightenment). The student-led training is designed to prepare students to participate in keishin.
